CREATING SPACE TO TALK ABOUT FAITH AT WORK

In Silicon Valley, many are hesitant to openly discuss their faith identities. However, I found among my coworkers at Facebook questions of faith, purpose, and identity were common, if quiet. Inspired by stories of interfaith communities in workplaces, I helped create a space to talk about faith. These informal monthly conversations centered around a theme: love, gratitude, divinity, the afterlife. Each month coworkers from different faith perspectives shared on their theme. God worked powerfully in this time. Whether 2 or 20 people attended, God faithfully sparked new conversations, wove together deeper relationships, and proved His presence and importance in the midst of Silicon Valley.
We appreciate the way that Liz brings her full self into all the programs and projects that she touches. We have been blessed to have Liz and her husband, Chase, volunteer in our ministry. Her bright smile and engaging personality have made many excited to join our F&WM gatherings and workplace fellowship leader's events. We met Liz as she joined FB and began serving in her workplace fellowship group known as "Christians@Facebook." We have witnessed her passionately engage in conversations about faith, work, and technology. She is bold enough to share what she believes, yet humble enough to learn about the beliefs of others around her. Her love for people is contagious.
Integrating my faith and work ....
Being a Christian at work means: noticing those others forget, valuing personal relationships above career success, and trusting God's purpose in every challenge, project, and partnership.
